Yes for a commercial project of this! Do you think it would be feasible to make a voice expansion project using clone JP4 cards to upgrade existing machines? Cheers.

Hi, unfortunately its not very practical to add more voices to the JP4. There is nowhere to put them in the case, and the keyboard scanner only does 4 voices. It would be possible to build a 4 or 8 voice rack or boat synth using the new cards and the new patch programmer we are working on. Best Regards Rob

  • Hi there,

Just leaving my comment that if these cards ever became available I would probably be up for 5 of them for my tech to build.

I would buy 4 of them to make an 8-voice JP4 if someone can figure out an expansion. Perhaps a few more as backup.
Best of luck with this project.

@amsynths definitely challenging but there’s a lot of air inside the JP4. I can think of at least a few ways to place more cards inside, at least a couple of them for sure. You are right about the key assigner though, it would have to be a new board altogether, like the one Lazlo Kovari is developing for IO V2 now. But 6-voice Jupiter-4? Where do I sign?

Also leaving a message to say I will buy 4 if made

  • nice one Rob, think I might’ve been watching that JP4 voice board too 🙂

Any chance you could measure the voice card for us? I had a card drawn up but had second thoughts as to the size of it.

Wow! I will go for 8! (ten years ago I bought 8 jp4 cards.. 4 of the first version and four of the second one, and also a single controller board)
Considering that you also made a great jp4 oscillator board..why not put that extra osc (pro mars option).
considering that the cards are ready for external cv control, maybe multiple single voice modulescan be chained and controlled from an external module with memories (similar to the sem by oberheim).

I love you! Please let me know when the voice cards will be out. It would be really handy if you have a midi routing card to send to each voice and a little mixer as well. It would also be handy to be able to control the boards from a single master control surface like the original. Setting each voic3 to the same settings could be challenging. I’m thinking leave the pots out and control via cc. Be much cheaper and you could put 4 voices on one card. Anyway very happy you are doing this. This is such an overlooked synth.

Last thought. If you do all that. We can make up a copy front panel and make clones like the 2600. Be easy to use some random midi keyboard in the housing to drive it.
