AM991 Fixed Filters

Filter Modular III

The AM991 is a replica of the original Moog module that was included in the Modular II and III systems from the 1960’s. It is a pair of fixed filters (single pole -6dB Low Pass and High Pass) and an attenuator. There are five filter positions for each filter, and the extra attenuator is really handy.

It was dropped from the Moog System 35/55 as customers probably made little use of it. However its a nice alternative to the 923 module, as the 991 fixed positions require no dialing in of values.

The three circuits are totally passive with no power needed. There are five different value polyester capacitors in each filter with a 6 way rotary switch selecting each capacitor in turn, with a final bypass position at step 6.

The cutoff frequency of the filters is the same;

  • Low Pass  = 16Hz, 41Hz,159Hz, 482Hz, 1591Hz
  • High Pass = 16Hz, 41Hz,159Hz, 482Hz, 1591Hz

AMSynths 991 The module is PCB based, rather than being hand wired like the original. The PCB holds the switches, pot, jacks sockets and filter capacitors. No power socket is required as both the AMSynths Moog modules and the Behringer 55 modules use earthed jack sockets, which makes the passive circuits work ok. The AM991 module was launched in the Spring of 2021, with an initial production run of 10x with Tropical Fish capacitors and carbon resistors, for an original sound and look.

2024 Edition The AM991 was re-released in the Autumn of 2024 with the correct Moog style panel (aluminum edges and lettering), Moog style control knobs and modern high quality metalized polyester capacitors. The AM991 is in production and available from our webstore.
