The Moog Modular is a fantastic sounding synth but it could benefit from having some performance oriented modules that make live playing more interesting. AMSynths have created three 4HP modules that do exactly that; The AM964 Trigger Controller, the AM965 Manual Switch and the AM967 Fader Recorder. Each module is 4HP wide and has a coloured momentary button at the base of the panel to activate the module. The designs have also been ported across to the 2500 modules; as the AM1064 and AM1067.

AMSynths AM964 This module is an enhanced replica of the Moog Triggered Controller which was created in 1969 for a one-off performance in New York. This utility module is just 4HP wide and can be used to generate two CV’s for any type of module, The voltages can be set manually or by dynamic sequencer or keyboard control. The AM964 is especially useful in live performances.
The module can generate two variable output voltages that are set by the control knobs, and activated by either the white latching push button at the base of the panel or by a V-trigger signal that is patched into the module. A LED indicates when the voltages are set on.
The range of each voltage can be set independently from 0 – 2V for pitch control or from 0 – 6V for CV modulation control. The AM964 can control any module that accepts CV inputs and thanks to the on-board precision reference voltage it can be used as a stable source of pitch CV’s.
For each control voltage there is an output jack socket, a range toggle switch and a control potentiometer. At the base of the panel is a white momentary push button which latches the CV’s on and off and the V-trigger input jack socket and a LED that illuminates when the voltages are on.
There are numerous use cases:
- Creating pitch, timbre and level accents using the push button
- Sequencer step based accents using the gate input
The AM964 module has been carefully designed to be compatible with the lower signal levels of a Moog Modular and its replicas.
Outcomes and Availability The module was designed in the Winter of 2024/25 and went into production in February 2025, with a public launch at SynthEast 2025.
