PE410 Dual Ring Modulator

Projekt Elektronik – Dual Ring Modulator

2027 Plans Modular III Old Gear Ring Mod

Projekt Elektronik built a one-off custom modular synthesizer for Paul Baumann in 1977. It contains 32x patch busses as well as many customized modules in Moog Modular format. There is a good overview at this web page here. One of the modules that we have decided to clone is the PE 410 Dual Ring Modulator. We may clone other modules like the VCO’s and the dual VCF.

Description There are no schematics for the modules but in one of the photos of the VCF two ARP 4012 modules are visible, so we have used the same approach for the ring modulator, by cloning the ARP 4014 sub module from the 2600. This provides dual analog four quadrant multipliers. We have added a gate signal that can be used to switch between the output of the two ring modulation sounds dynamically, and also manually via the illuminated switch.

The input of both ring modulators can be switched manually between AC and DC, with the AC mode putting 10uF BP capacitors into the signal path. The modulators have level controls for both the X and Y inputs, which are designed for Moog signal levels (2V p-t-p for audio and 0 to +6V for CV’s). An amber and a yellow LED show the output levels, which are summed into one output. Modulator 1 has red pot caps and modulator 2 has yellow caps, which were boring black in the original design.

PE419 Dual Ring Mod

In July 2026 a prototype was ordered, and it needed a +5V power rail and some changes to the LED resistors before it was working perfectly. It is now available in a production run.

The dual ring modulator is available to match the Behringer and AMSynths Moog modular format and with an etched black aluminum panel. In our modular layout the PE 410 has gone into the Edgar Froese “Moog” Doepfer 9LV cabinet, alongside a Noise Generator.

Outcomes & Availability The production module was launched in 2026. To purchase one head over to our web shop here:
